Our Jackson Square cafe is located in one of San Francisco’s landmark neighborhoods. Some of the brick buildings lining the streets date back to the 1850s still don cast-iron shutters originally put there to protect against fires. And while the neighborhood is quite calm now—even buttoned up—it was once a haven for nighttime immoderation.
Designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, our spacious cafe space feels entirely modern but there are still plenty of pleasures to be had. The bleached-maple interior is like a loom-woven blanket or an Ella Fitzgerald song, a balm against the San Francisco fog. Tomoko Azumi Pebble table and stools set the tone for playful interactions, where guests can watch the craft of coffee unfold behind the bar, or meet up with a friend, enjoying seasonal single origins, cold brew, and our extensive culinary menu that includes our legendary Liege wafel and toasts worthy of a meal.
Beyond providing good drink and food, Jackson Square is also our pilot site for implementing zero-waste practices to help us reach our goal of diverting at least 90 percent of our waste from the landfill. By launching in San Francisco, we have a dedicated partner in the city, which announced its own zero-waste goal back in 2002.
