Burundi Kayanza Heza Natural

Burundi coffee comes from a single cultivar: bourbon. Making up 100% of the country’s coffee production, this variety finds its truest expression grown in the region’s high elevations and passed through the hands of specialized producers. This coffee holds the best bourbon attributes—an aroma dusted with various florals and herbs, and blackberry notes made complex by the taste of raw honey.

ORIGIN AND PARTNERSHIP

Rarely do we see a producer who works with a sole variety. But in Burundi, where bourbon is the only cultivar grown, producers like those at Heza Washing Station have specialized experience. As an early adopter of natural processing in the region, Heza’s impeccable, finely-tuned methods over the 14 years we’ve worked with them yield pristine profiles of the country’s cultivar.

Roasting Profile

Small Batch Coffee, Fresh-Roasted Daily to Order

We employ the Japanese notion of Kaizen in our roasting practice. This idea of “good change” or “continuous improvement” drives our team to keep daily records of their tastings, always chasing better, more delicious, more consistent coffees.

We roast small batches on Loring machines around the world, so our coffee tastes not only luminous, but reliably consistent, from Tokyo to New York.
