About This Coffee

Kenya coffees are unique in the entire world for their acidity and clarity of flavor. Acids in the coffee push flavor notes to the forefront of the experience because they sweeten and brighten the cups as a whole. Phosphoric and tartaric acids, common in Kenya coffees, are particularly sweet-tart and evocative of berries and grapes.

This year, however—possibly due to the drought in the highlands just before harvest—the best overall profiles are more tropical than usual, with floral and mango sweetnesses that can sometimes be overlooked on a cupping table of dozens of winey coffees. With acids that are more integrated, you get flavor nuance in full relief that’s nevertheless not over-burdened by brightness. Nowhere is this more clear than with this coffee, a snappy, structured, and aromatic single origin bursting with jasmine and elderflower.
