Aida Batlle’s
Award-Winning Kilimanjaro

El Salvador Aida Batlle Finca Kilimanjaro
Aida Batlle first made news when her Kilimanjaro swept the international Cup of Excellence in 2003. Then, at auction, it fetched the highest price per pound for a coffee in history. Now, 13 years later, the Kilimanjaro is still one of the most balanced and compelling coffees we offer.
Aida Batlle is a fifth-generation coffee farmer and a first-generation coffee celebrity.

About This Coffee

Before Aida Batlle became a legend, she was a little-known producer taking a chance to revive her family’s ailing farm. On their highest plot of land, she planted a Kenya cultivar never before grown in El Salvador and picked selectively for the first time. The outsider SL-28, transplanted to Santa Ana’s unique microclimate and wet processed with utmost care, transcended boundaries. Years after winning the Cup of Excellence, Kilimanjaro continues to reach dizzying heights.

Details

Composer John Cage once said, “I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.” Aida Batlle telegraphs his sentiment in the making of Kilimanjaro, where materials from opposite sides of the world converge on a single volcanic mountain. Proof there’s no single path to a masterpiece.
