Guatemala Alta Verapaz Santa Sofia
Suspended in a cloud forest, Santa Sofia resides at 1,675 meters above sea level (at its lowest point) in the Cobán region of Alta Verapaz. The region’s extreme microclimate challenges farmer Pablo José Ferrigno Figueroa with 11 months of rain each year and unpredictable coffee maturations and harvests. You’d never guess that the coffee created in these misty climes is supernaturally delicate and fruited, reminiscent of the sunlit canopy of trees, just beyond the reach of vision. Take it with you on a walk through the fog, and all your other senses come into focus—warming notes of plum, brown sugar, and huckleberry pierce the mist.
