Colombia Oporapa El Jardin

Oporapa, Huila

Pedro Nel Trujillo tends to his farm, El Jardín, with a journalist’s curiosity and a scientist’s precision. His keen understanding of which coffee cultivars need full sun and which are most susceptible to roya has yielded a thriving and productive farm—of palatial size, by Colombian standards—where Tabi trees gravitate skyward and Caturra trees grow as lush and full as shrubs beneath a canopy of shade. Like so many coffees from the Huila Department in southern Colombia, this single origin is soft and full, with tangerine-like acidity and the caramelized sweetness of baked stone fruit.
