Located next to the famous Central–Mid-Levels escalator, our first cafe in Hong Kong is an expansive two-story oasis in the midst of the city’s beating heart. The covered escalator is the world’s longest, traversing 800 meters (about ½ mile) taking commuters and visitors up and down from the bustling Central district, where our cafe is located, to the quieter and more residential neighborhoods in the hills. Escalator riders can peer through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the cafe.
On the first floor, guests will find our espresso bar with stools outside for perching. At the pour over bar on the second floor, guests can watch our skilled baristas or linger over a latte or a single-origin oolong tea while sitting in one of our leather-and-wood director chairs. On nice days, we open up the folding windows to bring a little of the inner calm of our space out to the street. As an homage to Hong Kong’s love of tile—a popular surface material for interiors and exteriors—we’ve clad the walls, floors, and front of the coffee bars in handmade ceramic grey square tiles from Japan. It provides a polished finish that intrigues upon closer look, since no two are exactly alike.
If you’re looking for a coffee in Hong Kong’s Central, near the Tai Kwun art museum, when you meet friends at the escalator, or before you go out in the Lan Kwai Fong bar district, this is the cafe for you.
