Around the time Joan Didion was driving alone through her Los Angeles neighborhood, listening to KRLA and cataloging the land’s ubiquitous laundromats, someone was probably tuning into the same station on a portable radio in the Culver City garage that is now, fifty years later, our Hayden Tract cafe.
Before it was an auto body shop, it was a Datsun dealership, and we’re certain the place is haunted by the ghosts of brightly colored Datsun 510 wagons on their way to the Pacific Palisades with surfboards strapped to their roof racks. (Or, at least, we hope so.) Now, buzzing with galleries, galleys, studios, and stages, the Hayden Tract neighborhood has inspired us to work again with designer Hiromi Tsuruta—a particular expert in the design of small spaces.
Hayden Tract also wooed us with its efforts to make this corner of far-flung LA County a friendly place for bikers and pedestrians. For our part, we offer assorted pastries, coffee from our custom drip bar, and espresso drinks crafted on our La Marzocco Strada EE to all manner of travelers. When you visit, take a moment to pause on the gravity-defying cantilevered mezzanine: If you’re patient, you can catch a glimpse of the passing trains headed to the heart of LA.
Hayden Tract hosts brew classes each month. Details can be found here.
